Gibraltar has a strikingly healthy economy but the UK is undergoing a series of cuts. The Gibraltar Chronicle quotes chief minister Fabian Picardo commenting that military cutbacks won't affect the Rock - local workers not facing compulsory redundancy should be pleased to hear that. Meanwhile the same paper reports on continuing Spanish disquiet over the absence of bilateral talks, although the Olive Press Confirms that at least Spain's ban on Gib hockey teams has gone away.
Less controversially, Gib has hosted a major event for cancer charities, confirms Euro Weekly, to mark World Cancer Day. It appears to have been a considerable success. Promising in a different way is the country's entry into the UK Cyber Security Challenge, a scheme for schools with tech savvy kids.
Finally the Chessbase website confirms that for the second year in a row, Hikaru Nakamura has won the championship. It wasn't as easy as last time and bodes well for a close match next year too.
