Morning Call: The best from Gibraltar

A selection of the best articles about politics, business and life on the Rock from the last seven days.

You may have noticed that there’s going to be a referendum on whether Britain should stay in the EU, and of course Gibraltar will be voting as well. Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Garcia has been addressing students on the subject, reports GBC, and he’s unequivocal – Gibraltar is better staying in. The International Adviser has published a report on a government paper on what might happen if Britain did decide to cut loose.

On the other side of the political spectrum from Mr. Garcia, Daniel Feetham has been re-elected GSD leader, unopposed.

Education, and Gibraltarian student Kristina Earle is going to climb the BT Tower for Great Ormond Street, says the Olive Press. Obviously we wish her every safe return – she’s raised £500 so far and anyone in a generous mood can contribute here (just to clarify, she has no connection with the New Statesman). Education again and artist Paul Cosquieri has put in a plea for an arts faculty in the new University; it’s only been open since September and already there are calls for its improvement. Is that a record?

Finally environment, and the restoration of Witham’s Cemetary has started thanks to an influx of volunteers from the army. The environment and its preservation is much on this news hub’s mind at the moment; come and check the main page on Tuesday for a look at Gib’s role in the COP talks in Paris late last year.
