New poetry from John Kinsella.

Corvids

Up the church’s steps

The hooded birds boldly hop

Towards salvation.

Starlings

In the eaves –

cats brawling below –

beaks knotted with grubs;

the clouds vanished

as pesticides softened

eggshells – crushed

by the lightest

of bodies.

John Kinsella’s new book of selected poems, Drowning in Wheat, is published by Picador. His latest col-lection, Firebreaks, recording life and ecology in Western Australia, has just been published by W W Norton.
