A selection of the best articles about politics, business and life on the Rock from the last seven days.
Politics has been in the news in a big way in the UK and there’s an election coming in Gibraltar, so you can expect a lot of big statements in the coming weeks and months. A former Spanish Minister is warming things up nicely, says the Olive Press, by calling for co-operation between Spain and Gib. This could be tricky if the perception that Spain is indulging in reckless incursions into Gib waters continues.
That comment was recorded by the Gibraltar Chronicle, which also notes residents raising £23,000 for cancer charities in the Relay for Life– quite an achievement. In fact it’s been a good week for recognising people worthy of honour on the Rock, the Chronicle also reports.
The government has found some time for slightly lighter tasks this week, including trying to sort out the conflict among Gibraltar’s boxing community, says Vox. We think boxing without conflict is likely to be a little tame but that probably means we’ve missed the point. Also in a sporting vein is the Olive Press’ update on the football team’s search for a new ground.
And no, hardly any mention of the university this week – it opens next week, welcoming students the week after, and you can check for part two of the interview with the Minister behind it, Gilbert Licudi, on the New Statesman’s Gibraltar Hub on Tuesday.
