Although their reputation for reliability took a pasting in the 2015 general election, opinion polls remain a key tool in assessing voter intentions. In polling on the EU referendum, a longstanding majority for remain has been gradually undermined as the vote approaches, with recent polls showing a narrow lead for Remain, and in some cases a reversal putting Leave slightly ahead.
