Pinocchio watch: the Ukip MP Douglas Carswell and Tory minister Penny Mordaunt's outright lies about the EU

A Hungarian government spokesperson demands an apology.

Douglas Carswell, the Ukip MP for Clacton, is proving what everybody already knows about the EU debate - that the truth is irrelevant.

Tweeting a poster put out by the Hungarian government, he accused Remainers of being on the same side as Jobbik - a far-right party in Hungary:

What Carswell doesn't seem to be bothered about correcting is that the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, is actually the current leader of the ruling Fidesz party - and has nothing to do with the extremist Jobbik party.

So adamant has Carswell been about refusing corrections on Twitter that he has attracted the attention of a Hungarian government spokesperson, Zoltan Kovacs, who is calling on him to apologise:

Your mole has noticed that prominent pro-Leave politicians are increasingly getting away with outright lies. The Armed Forces minister Penny Mordaunt recently insisted that the UK does not have a veto over whether Turkey joins the EU (watch below). This is just factually wrong.
